ITINERARY: Once we depart in the morning we will transit up the Sir Francis Drake Channel taking in the sights of Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda, pass the Seal Dog Cays, Mosquito and Prickly Pear Islands before we get to our first snorkel spot in Eustatia Sound. Our snorkel spot at “Eustasia Reef” is unique for here you’ll discover antique cannons and anchors from the lost ships of the pirate and adventurer Bert Kilbride. The shallow reef is also home to large schools of BlueTangs and Rainbow Parrot Fish.
The North Sound has provided safe harbour to more pirates than any other anchorage in the Virgin Islands. Both Black Sam Bellamy and Blackbeard used the Sound for fortification on numerous occasions. Sir Francis Drake collected his fleet in the North Sound before sailing to attack Puerto Rico in the late 16th century where he defeated the Spanish Armada. After our Snorkel we will motor past the Bitter End Yacht Club and dock at Saba Rock Restaurant for a delicious lunch. ($15-$20) The North Sound is one of the most picturesque and calm water areas of the BVI and we’ll motor our way between snorkel stops to take in all of the sites like Sir Richard Branson’s private Island Necker and Mosquito Islands. Then we’ll motor back out into Drakes Channel to “Bronco Billy’s Reef at Great Dog Cay” for our last colourful snorkel. Great Dog is well known to have every type of coral that is indigenous to the BVI and needless to say the snorkelling in the calm and crystal clear waters that surround the island is outstanding. On our smooth trip home you'll enjoy lots of interesting stories about the history of the islands from our friendly and knowledgeable crew. This trip is always fun and all snorkel equipment is included. Be sure to bring your own towels, hats, sunglasses, money for lunch, cameras and plenty of sunscreen.
