ITINERARY: We’ll start off the morning by snorkeling across Drakes Channel to the “Treasure Caves at Norman Island”. Norman Island is
a well-known destination for cruisers and other tourists because of 3 water-level caves at the base of cliffs just outside the western edge of
The Bight. The caves are ideal for snorkeling and penetrate deeply enough into the cliffs that darkness makes the experience like a night
dive. Since the 1750’s, visitors to the Island have discovered three separate treasure troves with each yielding substantially different
amounts of riches. These bounties undoubtedly inspired Robert Louis Stevenson to immortalize Norman Island as his setting for the epic
novel “Treasure Island”.
Next we’ll cruise to the east and visit “The Wreck of The R.M.S Rhone”. The Royal Mail Steamer is located just off of
Salt Island where it was sunk during a hurricane in 1867. The ship sank during the peek of the storm when its boilers were swamped and
violently exploded tragically killing over 100 of its crew and passengers. Featured in 1975 movie “The Deep”, the sailing steamer is
recognized as one of the most famous snorkel and dive sites in the world. The Rhone is much more famous today than she ever was afloat.
She lies in normally calm water at a depth from 20 to 80 feet of water and her iron hull is remarkably well preserved. The underwater flora
and fauna that surround her are prolific – a snorkeling and scuba diving dream.
Next we’ll enjoy a Gourmet Lunch on board before cruising to
Virgin Gorda and “The Baths;” the BVI’s most popular tourist attraction. Some naturalists have labeled The Baths (a name first was coined by
African Slaves) the eighth wonder of the world. The Baths is a large area at the southwest end of Virgin Gorda that offers hiking, snorkeling
and great sun bathing at the 3 sandy beach coves that separate the toppled granite boulders. We offer a “Guided Walking Tour” of The
Baths to safely explore the unique arrangement of the assorted size boulders; or you can simply enjoy snorkeling off the boat in the
surrounding turquoise waters. After a couple of hours we’ll cruise home as the sun sinks over Drakes Channel and the island of Tortola.
